LED street lighting saving money

Leicestershire County Council says its energy consumption has been cut by 63 per cent, thanks to its switchover to LED street lighting.

Work to upgrade all of Market Harborough’s street lights to the latest LED technology began in 2016… replacing the bulbs of 1,650 lights at a cost of three hundred and sixty five thousand pounds.

Last year, the authority finished upgrading a total of 68,000 lighting columns across Leicestershire as part of its 25 million pound investment programme.

However, the Council reveals that’s now saving it two million pounds a year in electricity costs – as well as reducing the carbon produced by 78.9 per cent.
