Aldi To Trial Compostable Bags

Written by on 12th June 2019

Shoppers at Market Harborough’s Aldi are to trial a new green carrier bag scheme which could end up being rolled out nationwide.

From next month they’ll have the option to buy a fully compostable carrier bag for 6p.

Made of a bio-degradable material, they’re designed to be completely compostable within a year.

The supermarket chain is to trial it at its 17 stores across Leicestershire and Rutland before deciding to make them available nationwide.

Aldi expects a significant amount of plastic will be saved if the trial rolls out nationally.

The bag being introduced across all stores could help to save up to 1,300 tonnes per year, which is the equivalent of 33.3 million carrier bags.
