Thieves have stolen around 100 newly-planted flowers from Welland Park in Market Harborough during the middle of the night.

They dug up the Geraniums from beds adjacent to the tennis courts, during the early hours of Monday.

The flowers have now been re-planted following the theft

Harborough Council say the theft is thought to have happened at about 4am.

A spokesman told Hfm: “This is extremely saddening as our team from contractors FCC Environment take immense pride in their work, to ensure the park looks good during the summer, which compliments efforts from Harborough In Bloom volunteers.”

Council Leader Phil King branded those responsible ‘pathetic’ when he spoke to Hfm:

The plants have now been replaced, although people are being urged to be vigilant and to report anyone removing flowers in the park to contact Police.
