Parking Fines Issued Outside School

The first fines have been handed out in Market Harborough to people parking illegally near a school as part of a new clampdown.

Two £70 fixed penalty notices were issued to drivers outside Meadowdale Primary School earlier this month, together with one warning notice.

It follows patrols by Leicestershire County Council’s Camera Car at the start and end of the school day.

Across the County 127 fines have been handed out since the trial scheme to boost safety was launched last September.

The car also patrols near Farndon Fields Primary School in Market Harborough and Lubenham All Saints with plans to extend the scheme to also cover Ridgeway Primary Academy.

A Leicestershire County Council spokesperson said: “We know that inconsiderate and dangerous parking outside schools can be a real problem, and we hope that this trial proves to be a major deterrent and a big boost to road safety.

“The trial isn’t about catching and fining motorists – we want people to stop parking inconsiderately near schools as it endangers the lives of pedestrians and causes a great deal of concern for schools and parents. We’ve received some very positive feedback on the scheme, and we now have 154 schools that have signed up.”
