Flags Erected Across Town Centre For D-Day Anniversary

Over 100 Union Jack flags have been erected in Market Harborough as part of commemorations to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day next month.

They have been placed above shop and business premises across the town centre, to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who took part in the allied invasion in France in 1944, which played a crucial role in liberating Western Europe from Nazi occupation.

The anniversary on June 6th will be marked with events in and around Market Harborough, including a ceremony in the town centre, a special church service and beacon lighting ceremonies in Lubenham and Lutterworth.

There will also be a 1940’s-themed weekend event at Harborough Market on June 8th and 9th.

Harborough District Council have installed the flags in partnership with traders and Leader, Cllr Phil Knowes, told HFM it is a fitting tribute:
