£400K Boost For Harborough Sports Projects

Three community sports projects across Harborough are to benefit from funding totalling over £400,000.

The biggest chunk, £350,000 is going to the Houghton Field Association in Houghton on the Hill to help with the cost of a new pavilion, to replace the existing facility which is over 50 years old.

The Tennis club in the village has also been awarded just over £13,000 to resurface its courts and Kilworth Sports Club has received over £33,000 to upgrade its changing facilities.

The District Council has awarded the ‘Section 106’ grants using money provided by developers to improve community facilities in areas where they have built.

The funding allocations come just a few months after more than £925,000 of Section 106 funding was allocated to local projects by the Council.

Councillor Simon Whelband, Harborough District Council’s Cabinet member for communities, said: “We are delighted to be supporting even more community projects across the district, especially ones which encourage physical activity and recreation time which is important in these challenging times.

“In the space of just a few months, we have helped allocate well over a million pounds, in areas where new housing has been built, which is providing welcome infrastructure.”
