£20k Cash Boost For Community Groups

Over £20,000 has been handed to community groups across Harborough, including to help some continue to meet during the pandemic.

Youth organisations in Market Harborough and Kibworth are among those to benefit from Harborough District Council’s Community Grant Fund, for projects which help provide or improve outdoor facilities, sports or art equipment for young people, or improving environment.

The Cube Youth Centre at the Symington’s Recreation Ground & the 1^st Bowden Scouts will use their grants to create outdoor shelters so youngsters can meet outdoors in a Covid-secure manner and the Kibworth Scout Group has been handed money for a similar project.

Councillor Simon Whelband, Cabinet lead for communities and wellbeing, told Hfm it is great they have been able to support groups at this time:

Projects which successfully applied for funding are:

• South Kilworth Bowls Club– £5,000 for a mower to enhance the condition of the playing surface
• Lutterworth Town Estates– £3,750 for gym style equipment for children at the Coventry Road recreation ground
• Kibworth Scout Group– £3,023.45 for a shed and portable outdoor equipment to enable group to continue with Covid-secure, face to face scouting
• HDC Wellbeing / Everyone Active– £2,422.83 for a bicycle shelter and racks for Harborough Leisure Centre
• HYACT The Cube– £2,356.42 to build a wooden shelter over the patio to enable group to continue with Covid-secure face to face meetings and update CCTV system
• Gumley Parish Meeting– £1,312 for tree safety work in Crow Spinney Ancient Woodland
• Broughton Astley Parish Council– £1,071 for a carved sculpture bench with plaque from felled trees
• 1st Bowden Scout Group– £1,016.69 for four event shelters and rechargeable lanterns to enable group to continue with Covid-secure, face to face scouting
• Lutterworth Robins Netball Group– £846 for floodlights for outdoor training to enable group to continue with Covid-secure training
