Everyone Active’s Mission To Get People Fit
Written by HFM News on 8th December 2021
We all know that exercise is hugely important for our health and wellbeing – but how much should we really be doing? Maybe a more manageable amount than you think.
Everyone Active, the award-winning operator of Harborough Leisure Centre, is on a mission to get everyone doing at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise, five times a week – or 150 minutes.
This is the basic amount everyone should be aiming to achieve in order to live a healthy lifestyle and to keep their body in good condition.
Of course, ‘moderate-intensity exercise’ means different things to different people.

For some, a half-hour stroll might be enough to get the blood pumping. Others may need to work a little harder, by running on a treadmill or attending a group fitness class.
Whatever it is, it all counts. Just because someone can’t do 25 minutes on an exercise bike, that doesn’t mean what they are doing isn’t hugely beneficial, or that they won’t be able to do that in the future.
For those looking to lose weight, it’s important to be specific and realistic with fitness goals and the 150-minute target is a great place to start.
With increased fitness, you can push yourself slightly harder, to 45-60 minutes per session, while being careful to avoid over-training.
Everyone is different and the key to staying fit and avoiding injury is to listen to your body and to tailor your training accordingly.
Harborough Leisure Centre offers a wide range of activities for the local community, so meeting the 150-minute target is within reach for everyone, no matter what your age, interests or ability level.

Among the facilities are a 55-station fitness suite, two dance studios, one group cycling studio and a sports hall.
There are three pools – a 25m pool, a tiger beach effect pool with play features, a learner pool and flume.
A bowls hall, tennis dome and wellbeing hub are also included on the site.
Matthew Hopkin, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We are proud to help the whole community get their 150 minutes, as there is an activity for everyone at Harborough Leisure Centre.
“We want to play our part to raise standards of health locally and to improve people’s physical and mental wellbeing.
“Our colleagues are very happy to help with any questions which new and existing members may have, so please do contact us or enquire at reception.”
