70th Anniversary of VE Day

Market Harborough fell silent on Friday May 8th to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day.

It was part of an event in the town centre organised by the Royal British Legion.

The event featured songs from the war years before a two minute silence signaled by the firing of maroon rockets…to mark the moment in 1945 that then Prime Minister, Winston Churchill broadcast to the nation the news that war was officially over.

Harborough District Council and HFM are supported the event, that was held on The Square, outside the Memorial Garden gates - which were erected as a memorial following World War Two.
